Board of Education Business Meeting and Work Session, August 24, 2026 at 4:30 pm at SSMS

The Steamboat Springs School District (SSSD) Board of Education has unanimously passed a resolution  opposing Amendment 80, “Constitutional Right to School Choice,” that would guarantee access to school choice in the Colorado constitution. The amendment also names private schools and “future innovations in education” as options guaranteed by the Constitution. 

The Steamboat Springs Board of Education (BOE) unanimously approved the proposed compensation package for the 2024-2025 school year presented at Monday’s BOE meeting. The package, presented to the Board by Dr. Celine Wicks, Superintendent, Board Vice President Chresta Brinkman, and Director of Finance and Operations Stephanie Juneau, reflects a more than $3 million investment to significantly increase the pay of certified and classified staff starting next school year. 

Kevin Callahan, Leah Helme, and Lara Craig were sworn into the Steamboat Springs School District Board of Education today. Callahan and Helme are two new members of the Board of Education, replacing Alissa Merage and Dr. Matthew Rice, who decided to step down after their term ended. Craig is beginning her second term on the BOE. All members will serve four-year terms.

According to a recent survey conducted by the Steamboat Springs School District, 56.8% of respondents oppose moving forward with the continued exploration of a four-day school week for the Steamboat Springs School District.

The Steamboat Springs Board of Education appointed Dr. Matthew Rice at their meeting this evening to fill the vacant position on the Board. Rice will serve on the Board until elections are held in November. He will be sworn in before the next board meeting. 

The Board of Education of the Steamboat Springs School District RE-2 (Board) accepted the resignation of Board Director Kim Brack during the January 9, 2023 Board meeting. The Board unanimously adopted a resolution declaring a vacancy and established procedures for filling the vacancy. The Board intends to fill the vacancy within the statutory 60-day time period per C.R.S. 22-31-129(2).
