During the Board of Education meeting on June 17, 2019, the Steamboat Springs School District Board of Education gave direction to the district to move forward with a total bond package amount of $79.5 million. This includes a preliminary commitment to fund the following priority projects at the district’s existing schools in addition to the construction of a new Preschool–8 school at Steamboat II:
SSHS: 9,000 square foot addition (total capacity increase: +100-150)
SSMS: 4,000 square foot addition/renovation including science classroom and kitchen/dining space; turf and track (secondary practice field for high school sports)
SPE: Cafeteria addition; preschool
SCE: Additional classrooms to relocate students from 4 exterior modular trailer classrooms and house preschool
YVHS: Security vestibule; common space; bathroom improvements
NRCCS: Multi-purpose space and restroom addition
Other: Boys & Girls Club updates; renewable energy
The school board is continuing to evaluate potential mill levy override initiatives to fund teacher and staff compensation increases and the operation of a new school. The school board’s next workshop is Monday, July 22, 2019 at Bud Werner Memorial Library (1289 Lincoln Ave.) at 4pm.
