Who I Am & Why I Love Education
- Iʼve been an educator in the Yampa Valley since 2005, and 2026 marks my 24th year in the profession;
- I worked for the South Routt School District for 10 years, the NW BOCES for 9, and most recently the Moffat County School District during the 24-25 school year;
- Iʼve taught middle & high school math, been a Dean of Students, supported teachers as a Professional Learning Specialist, and guided teaching and learning as the Executive Director of Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment;
- I aspire to inspire my students to be curious and find purpose in their education - learning should be filled with joy and meaningful social interaction;
- I embrace neurodiversity... Every brain is unique, and what sparks passion and interest in one student might not for another;
- I hope to help all the young people in my care find their path towards a well-balanced and fulfilled life after high school.
Megan Cully, Gifted Education Teacher, Sleeping Giant School

Hi! My name is Megan Cully, and I am thrilled to be joining the Steamboat Springs GE team this school year! I grew up in the Chicago suburbs and came to Colorado every winter to ski and snowboard. As a kid, my dream was to ski in my own backyard. I have spent the last two years teaching conservation education in Iowa, and I can't wait to bring those experiences to my classroom!
Mindy Mulliken, Gifted Education Teacher, Steamboat Springs Middle School

I am returning to SSMS with a strong foundation in education and a passion for helping others while connecting with the community. I have recently transitioned from teaching math/science for 18 years to real estate and am now returning to my roots as an educator, working part-time as a GE teacher and realtor. I hold an M.Ed. with a focus on math and science from the University of Montana and have taught Chemistry/Environmental Science at CMC for two years, 8th-grade math/science at SSMS for 15 years, and previously taught high school at the World Class Kayak Academy and Crested Butte Ski Academy. I am passionate about mountain biking and skiing, and therefore stay involved with coaching for the HS mountain bike team and the women's clinics during the summer in addition to low-key local competitions in both arenas to stay sharp and have fun. I am thrilled to be back in the teaching environment where I can challenge our students and help each individual strive for growth throughout their middle school journey. Outside of teaching and real estate, I am a mom to three: a 15-year-old stepdaughter, a 5-year-old son, and a 3-year-old daughter. I cherish quality time with family and friends, especially when adventuring outside, whether on bikes or skis.
Emmy Wood, Gifted Education Teacher, Steamboat Springs Middle School

This is my 17th year as an educator. I have had a pretty diverse and dynamic career thus far, but I feel like it was all preparing me for this role as a gifted education teacher at SSMS. I have taught students of all levels, across the state, from the Denver Metro area to inner-city and rural areas, from preschool through 12th grade. I have been a fine arts instructor, a technology instructor and a building tech administrator; I have worked as a CTE instructor at the high school level, teaching family and consumer science (culinary arts and child development/education), and this is my third year working with gifted middle schoolers in Steamboat! I hold a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts and Education, as well as a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction.
I have two boys... men, actually, who were both identified as gifted at the elementary level. As a result, I have experienced various gifted education models in different districts and levels across the state, both from the parents' perspective and as a classroom teacher in my electives classes.
I am excited to help your students navigate their educational journey and prepare them for the next steps in high school and beyond.
