Online registration for kindergarten and preschool is now open for the 2026–2027 school year. We are currently encouraging families to register students eligible for preschool and kindergarten. This is also the time for:
- New families to register students in any grade
- Families with existing students to register a new child
- Returning students to re-enroll
- Current families to complete their annual update

Before beginning the registration process, families are encouraged to determine which school their child is eligible to attend based on district boundaries. You can find your neighborhood school using our boundary map.

New families who have not yet enrolled a student in the Steamboat Springs School District will need to create an account in ALMA Start. ALMA is our Student Information System and is used to complete new student registration.
Below are detailed instructions for creating an account and beginning the registration process.
AlmaStart for New Families
Once your account is created and activated, you will be able to access and complete new student registration forms through AlmaStart.
Kindergarten Enrollment
Families with children eligible for kindergarten in fall 2026 can complete new student registration through ALMA Start. During the registration process, you will be asked to upload required documents, including a birth certificate, immunization record, and proof of residency.
Preschool Registration
Families with children who are 3 or 4 years old can register for preschool through the Steamboat Springs School District. The process varies slightly based on your child’s age. Please visit the Preschool page of our website for detailed instructions on how to register for preschool.
Families with Students Enrolled in SSSD
If you already have a student enrolled at any Steamboat Springs School District school, you already have an active ALMA account. Please do not create a new account, as this may result in duplicate records. If existing families would like to register a new student, follow the directions below.

If you need help with your login information, including your username, account activation, or password reset, please contact your child’s school directly. School staff can assist you in accessing your account.
Annual Updates
Families may also complete their annual update at this time. Follow the directions on our website to complete the annual update process.
Returning Students
Returning students are those who previously attended the Steamboat Springs School District within the last three years, left the district, and are now returning.
If your child is a returning student, please contact the school your child will attend before beginning the enrollment process. Our school staff will help determine whether you should complete the annual update or new student registration and will guide you through the correct next steps.
Inter- and Intra-District Enrollment
Inter-district students are those who attend SSSD schools but live outside the SSSD boundaries. Intra-district students are those who live within SSSD boundaries but attend a school outside their residential boundaries. Click here to view the District K-8 boundaries.

All parents and guardians of students who attend SSSD schools must complete the Annual Update by May 30 to update their proof of residency.

All parents and guardians of Inter- and Intra-District students must apply annually if they wish to enroll their student in a school outside of their boundaries. All Inter- and Intra-district students will be reviewed annually at each building and at the District level.
Inter- and Intra-District enrollment applications are open on a rolling basis, with enrollment decisions made in August. Click here for more information on inter- and intra-district enrollment.

Lease or rental agreement showing the name and physical address of a parent or legal guardian

If you are experiencing difficulty providing proof of residence, please contact your child’s school for assistance. School staff can help you determine acceptable documentation options.
During the registration process, you will also be asked to provide:
Physical and Mailing Address
All students must have both a physical address and a mailing address on file. If your physical address does not receive mail, please select “physical address only” and add a separate mailing address.
Emergency Contacts
Emergency contacts must be someone other than the parent or legal guardian. Please be sure to list at least one additional trusted adult who can be contacted in the event of an emergency.

Center-Based Programs for Students with Autism and Intensive Support Needs
The Steamboat Springs School District is expanding services for students with autism and intensive support needs.
In Fall 2026, Soda Creek Elementary will open a center-based autism program for students with significant support and complex communication needs. This program will operate within the existing school day and will not affect the experience of current Soda Creek students. Soda Creek Elementary will serve as the districtwide program site, with placement determined by IEP teams in partnership with families.

Estudiantes que Regresan

Documentos Requeridos e Información de Registro

El Distrito Escolar de Steamboat Springs está ampliando los servicios para estudiantes con autismo y necesidades de apoyo intensivo.
