McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act
Education for Homeless Children and Youth (EHCY) Program

The McKinney-Vento Act ensures that children and youth experiencing homelessness have access to a free and appropriate public education.
Students may qualify for support if they lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence, including those who:
- Share housing with others due to loss of housing or economic hardship
- Live in motels, hotels, trailer parks, or campgrounds due to lack of alternative housing
- Live in emergency or transitional shelters
- Live in cars, parks, public spaces, abandoned buildings, or other places not designed for sleeping
- Are unaccompanied youth not in the physical custody of a parent or guardian
Eligible students may receive assistance with enrollment, transportation, and access to educational services and supports.
If your family is experiencing housing instability, support is available through the Steamboat Springs School District.
