A Letter to the Community from Dr. Celine Wicks, Superintendent

Dear Steamboat Springs Community,

I want to share with you that I will be retiring as Superintendent of the Steamboat Springs School District at the end of the 2025–2026 school year, with my last day being June 30, 2026.

This decision was not easy. Serving this community has been one of the greatest honors of my career. The incredible students, families, educators, and staff who make up this district have inspired me every single day. Together, we have accomplished so much - creating our own Administrative Unit, transforming the climate and culture of our schools, restoring academic excellence so that our district now ranks among the top 9% in Colorado, and taking meaningful steps toward addressing affordable housing for staff.

Over the past twenty years, education has changed dramatically. The expectations on schools and educators have grown, and public education has become more complex. Through it all, our students, staff, and families have demonstrated remarkable resilience, creativity, and commitment to learning. It is this dedication that gives me full confidence in the continued success of our district.

I am deeply grateful for your trust, support, and partnership. Your involvement, encouragement, and belief in our schools have made my work here incredibly meaningful. I am proud of what we have accomplished together, and I will leave at the end of the academic year knowing that Steamboat Springs School District is in the hands of talented, dedicated educators and staff who will continue to put students first every day.

I will remain fully engaged as Superintendent through the end of June 2026 and look forward to working with the Board, staff, and community to ensure a smooth and successful transition. I am excited to see what the future holds for this extraordinary district and for our students.

Querida comunidad de Steamboat Springs,

Quiero compartir con ustedes que me retiraré como Superintendente del Distrito Escolar de Steamboat Springs al finalizar el año escolar 2025–2026. Mi último día será el 30 de junio de 2026.

Esta decisión no fue fácil. Servir a esta comunidad ha sido uno de los mayores honores de mi carrera. Los increíbles estudiantes, familias, educadores y miembros del personal que conforman este distrito me han inspirado cada día. Juntos, hemos logrado mucho: crear nuestra propia Unidad Administrativa, transformar el clima y la cultura de nuestras escuelas, restaurar la excelencia académica de modo que ahora nuestro distrito se ubica entre el 9 % superior de Colorado, y dar pasos significativos para abordar la vivienda asequible para el personal.

Durante los últimos veinte años, la educación ha cambiado de manera drástica. Las expectativas sobre las escuelas y los educadores han crecido, y la educación pública se ha vuelto más compleja. A lo largo de todo ello, nuestros estudiantes, personal y familias han demostrado una notable resiliencia, creatividad y compromiso con el aprendizaje. Es esta dedicación la que me da plena confianza en el éxito continuo de nuestro distrito.

Estoy profundamente agradecida por su confianza, apoyo y colaboración. Su participación, aliento y fe en nuestras escuelas han hecho que mi trabajo aquí sea increíblemente significativo. Me siento orgullosa de lo que hemos logrado juntos, y dejaré mi cargo al final del año escolar sabiendo que el Distrito Escolar de Steamboat Springs queda en manos de educadores y personal talentosos y dedicados que continuarán poniendo a los estudiantes en primer lugar cada día.

Permaneceré plenamente comprometida como Superintendente hasta finales de junio de 2026 y espero seguir trabajando con la Junta, el personal y la comunidad para asegurar una transición fluida y exitosa. Me entusiasma ver lo que el futuro depara para este extraordinario distrito y para nuestros estudiantes.
