Community Invited to Participate in Program Recognizing High School Students Exhibiting SAIL Values

New Program Encourages and Recognizes Positivity at SSHS

Steamboat Springs, Colo. - January 30, 2023 - A new program at Steamboat Springs High School is encouraging students to exhibit SAIL values: Spirit, Accountability, Inclusion, and Leadership. The main goal of the program is to bring a positive culture to the halls of SSHS.

If a staff member notices a student displaying one of these values, the teacher fills out a card with the student’s name and the action/behavior that warranted the recognition. All cards are put into a box, and the recognized students can win gift cards and vouchers from Steamboat Springs businesses and restaurants. Cards are drawn on Fridays during break time in the commons of SSHS, and students are recognized in front of their peers for their positive actions. Students must be present to win.

“We want to promote the positive things that are going on in the school and recognize students who are doing the right thing,” said Daniel Kohler, SSHS assistant principal.

Teachers and students collaborated together to create this program. In fact, students in the leadership class were responsible for calling local businesses and asking for their support. Local businesses who have donated vouchers or gift cards so far are:

  • Cafe Diva

  • City Market

  • Cruisers Sub Shop

  • Dusky Grouse Coffee

  • Fuzziwig's Candy Factory

  • Freshies Restaurant

  • Johnny B Good's Diner

  • Natural Grocers

  • Ore House at the Pine Grove

  • Ski Haus

  • The Shack Cafe

  • Winona's Restaurant

  • Yampa Sandwich Company

“We are proud of the students and staff for taking the initiative to get this program started,” said Ron Peterson, SSHS Interim Principal. “We are also grateful for the community's support in this endeavor. The students are so excited!”

Local businesses who are interested in donating gift cards or vouchers are encouraged to contact the front office of the high school at 970- 871-3699.
