Prioritizing Mental Health and Wellness

The Steamboat Springs School District is committed to supporting the mental health and well-being of students, staff, and families through a Comprehensive Mental Health Framework that integrates prevention, early intervention, and responsive care into the daily life of our schools.

Our comprehensive approach includes:

  • Tier 1: Universal supports for all students through social-emotional learning and wellness initiatives embedded in daily instruction.

  • Tier 2: Targeted supports that offer short-term, skill-based interventions for students needing additional help—currently serving 63 students across the district.

  • Tier 3: Intensive supports that provide individualized and family-based therapy through school-based clinicians and community partnerships—currently serving 56 students in active care.

Strong partnerships make this possible. Working with Reaching Everyone Preventing Suicide (REPS), Northwest Colorado Health, and 14 private mental health providers, SSSD ensures families have timely access to quality care, from free initial visits to ongoing therapy and specialized services.

The impact of this work is best reflected in the words of our families:

“We were so wrapped up in support and love during one of the most difficult times in our lives… These services were a lifeline and lifesaver for our entire family.”

“The school-based therapy has been a lifeline our family desperately needed… Without this program, we would not have been able to find or afford consistent therapy.”

“Thank you for providing this incredible service. It is saving and changing lives.”

Through these collective efforts, SSSD and our partners continue to foster a culture of wellness, compassion, and connection, ensuring that every student and family has the support they need to learn, grow, and thrive.
