Steamboat Springs Superintendent Dr. Celine Wicks Announces Retirement

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO - November 3, 2025 -  Steamboat Springs School District (SSSD) Superintendent Dr. Celine Wicks has announced her plan to retire at the end of the 2025–2026 school year. Her final day with the district will be June 30, 2026.

In a message shared with the community, Dr. Wicks reflected on her time leading the district and expressed deep gratitude for the students, staff, and families who make Steamboat Springs a special place to learn and work.

“Serving this community has been one of the greatest honors of my career,” said Dr. Wicks. “The incredible students, families, educators, and staff who make up this district have inspired me every single day. Together, we have accomplished so much — from creating our own Administrative Unit to transforming the culture of our schools and restoring academic excellence so that our district now ranks among the top 9% in Colorado.”

Dr. Wicks, who has spent more than two decades in public education, noted that while schools face increasing challenges, the strength of the Steamboat Springs community gives her great confidence in the district’s continued success.

“Our students, staff, and families have demonstrated remarkable resilience, creativity, and commitment to learning,” she said. “It is this dedication that makes me optimistic about the future.”

Board of Education President Katy Lee expressed appreciation for Dr. Wicks’s leadership and commitment to the district’s mission of putting students first.

“Dr. Wicks' leadership has been truly transformational for our district,” said Board President Katy Lee. “She has led with heart, vision, and an unwavering focus on what’s best for students. Thanks to her work, the next superintendent will inherit a district that is thriving and well-positioned for the future.”

The Board of Education will begin planning the superintendent search process after the new year and will share updates with staff and the community as the process unfolds.

Dr. Wicks will continue to lead the district through June 2026, working closely with the Board to ensure a smooth and successful leadership transition.
